Our materials for this activity are:
Soundscape recordings for Location 1 & Location 2
Data collection sheet for Location 1 & Location 2
Graph sheet for Location 1 & Location 2
Computer or Tablet device
Headphones
Instructions for Practical Activity
PART 1
Beginning with Location 1 (Werribee), listen to each Sound File in order.
As you listen to each recording, mark down what you are hearing on the data sheet:
If dolphins are present in that recording, tick in the “Dolphins” column on the data sheet.
If vessels are present in that recording, tick in the “Vessels” column on the data sheet.
If geophony (waves, rain, etc) is present in that recording, tick in the “Geophony” column on the data sheet.
Listen to all Sound File recordings for both Location 1 & Location 2.
Tally your results for each season, and each location on the data sheet.
PART 2
Once you have completed the data collection for all sound files, it is time to graph and visualise your data.
Using the graph sheet, create a bar graph for each season for both Location 1 & Location 2.
Using the graph sheet, create a bar graph for the total observations for both Location 1 & Location 2
PART 3
Using your completed datasets, answer the assessment questions.
