Research Internship & Work Placement

ABOUT OUR INTERNSHIP & WORK PLACEMENT PROGRAMS

We’ve received an overwhelming response for our 2026 Internship Program and have now closed applications for the first half of 2026.

Please check in a bit later for when the next round opens. Thank you for your interest!

At MMF, we are incredibly proud of the robust and meaningful internship and work-placement programs we offer to the next generation of marine scientists and conservationists. Through our internship and work-placement program, you will have the opportunity to learn unique industry skills through participation in field work, data processing, science communication, and community engagement.

Our internship and work-placement program supports university-based requirements, along with supporting early-career researchers wanting to make a difference. We have welcomed students and work-placement from all over the world.

The Marine Mammal Foundation is based in Mentone, Melbourne, Australia, as such it is important you are able to attend the workplace. Consideration of this should be taken if applying from interstate.

Unfortunately due to capacity at this time, we are unable to accept international applicants.

Requirements:

  • Passion for conservation, the environment & community engagement;

  • Willingness to be involved and try new things;

  • Skills in the relevant area of interest;

  • Good communication skills;

  • Field research and data processing experience, or a willingness to learn new techniques;

  • Availability to attend MMF Office.

    • MMF is based 20min from Melbourne CBD.

Timetable and availability for internships and work-placements are variable. Please complete the form and contact the team to learn more

MMF is a not-for-profit organisation based in Melbourne, Victoria. At this stage, all internship opportunities for international applicants are not remunerated, with no associated relocation costs and living expenses provided.

THANK-YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THE MARINE MAMMAL FOUNDATION.
