Instructions for practical activity
Our aim is to investigate the amount and impact of litter, plastic and marine debris in our local community to understand the impact we are having on our local marine environments. Though this investigation, we will learn how we can make a positive difference in our local environment.
Thinking about the litter in our environment, complete the brief litter survey below. The results from this survey will inform our next lesson!
Using the Household & Classroom Waste Audit resource, follow the instructions to undertake a household or classroom waste audit. Through this process you will learn how much waste you are producing, and importantly, the type of waste you are producing. Using this knowledge, we can then identify strategies to reduce the waste we are producing in our homes, classrooms and communities.
Using the Litter and Cleanup Audit resource, follow the instructions to undertake a litter cleanup in your school or local community. Through this process, you will discover the litter that is impacting your local environment, and the type of litter in your environment. Using this knowledge, we can identify source points of litter in our community, and areas where litter may originate, to develop strategies and ideas to mitigate this threat.
Undertaking the Household & Classroom Waste Audit and Litter and Cleanup Audit can take time. To achieve the best results, it is best to plan and prepare for these activities!
